Celebrations in Colombia

List/describe several of your island/country's festivals or celebrations Carnaval del Diablo-  is considered one of the most traditional celebrations in the country, and one of the longest celebrations in the world,  Carnaval de Negros y Blancos- is one of the major events in Southern Colombia, celebrated in Pasto over a week in early January.  Santa Semanta- Easter holy week takes place at the end of March/beginning of April each year and is the biggest festival of the year in Catholic Colombia. Festival of the Flowers- Taking place over ten days in early August, there are concerts, parades, food and drink, an orchid exposition, and competition amongst Saddlemen bearing flowers on horseback.  Barranquilla Carnival- Participants dress up in exotic costumes and take part in a grand parade with a queen, floats, salsa music, rumba dancing, food, drink, and partying. 2. Columbia            Columbia is k nown for its amazing beauty and vast jungles, Colombia offers many surprises. Some people do not associate the  Republic of Colombia   as part of the Caribbean region. However, the country has 1000 miles of Caribbean coast extending from the Gulf of Urab to the Gulf of Venezuela. The only Caribbean island with that much coastline is Cuba. The Caribbean Coastal region covers 51,077 sq. miles which definitely makes it geographically "Caribbean".      Colombia's coast is marked by natural flora and fauna that attract visitors year-round. The largest protected area is Tayrona  National Natural Park  along the Caribbean coast. Santa Marta, the first Spanish settlement in Colombia, and its oldest surviving city. The region makes a prime tourist destination. Interesting fact, Santa Marta is officially named  “Distrito Turístico, Cultural e Histórico e Santa Marta”  which means “Touristic, Cultural and Historic District of Santa Marta".
